Boarding Information
Vaccinations & safety measures
We ask that all our clients bring a health record of up-to-date
vaccinations for their cat.
No cat will be accepted without this.
- All cats must be spayed or neutered.
- Please note that any cat which has been
diagnosed with a contagious disease will not be accepted for
boarding. FIV (Aids), FeLV (Leukemia)
- Unfortunately we cannot accept diabetic
cats at this time.
- If your cat has the sniffles and sneezes, please have
him seen by a vet before you bring him in for boarding.
The first time you board your cat with us, we will need to spend
about 20 minutes or so together so we can get to know as much as
possible about your cat. After all, it is in the cat's best interest
to have someone who knows about possible health issues, or how
he likes to be stroked (or not at all!), or what she likes at mealtimes.
Is your cat friendly towards strangers? Does he hate being picked
up and cuddled? All these questions and answers will contribute
towards making your cat's stay at the cattery a pleasant experience.
Safety
When you bring your cat in for boarding, please have it in its
carrier or on a leash. (It is our clients' responsibility to
make sure their cat is brought in safely from the car to inside
the cattery.)
Something that smells of home and you, the cat's owner
If your cat is new to boarding, you might want to bring a towel,
blanket or an old T-shirt that smells like home. Your odour,
which is impregnated into the article, is comforting to your
cat while you're away.
If you wish, you can also bring your cat's grooming brushes and
favourite toys. We supply only holistic, natural cat food, wet
or dry, or you may choose to bring your cat's preferred food. We
also cater for special diets. No need to bring food dishes.
You can bring your cat's litter box if you want or we supply
covered litter boxes with the door removed as some cats don't like
the swinging door. We find this works best although it may mean
a bit more work for us when cleaning up.
Litter boxes are cleaned once in the morning and more when necessary.
Cleanliness is a major priority at the cattery. The units are disinfected
thoroughly the minute a cat leaves the premises in preparation
for the next boarder or boarders. (Should you be late in coming
to pick up your cat, we would put him in our roomy holding pen
in the office next to the cattery.)
Where you can be reached
In case of emergency, please let us have your itinerary with telephone
numbers where you can be reached or that of a local friend or
family member. We also ask for your vet's name and telephone
number on our reservation form.
Vet Services - just in case
When you reserve for boarding your cat, you will be asked to sign
a disclaimer which will, among other things, give us permission
to make medical decisions for you while you are away. We recommend
you leave a credit card and instructions with your vet in case
you are not reachable by phone or if your cat is older than 14.
There are several good veterinary clinics nearby. In the unlikely
event that your cat needs treatment, whatever is necessary will
be done to make sure he is well taken care of. We will add a small
fee of 10.00$ for transportation to and from the clinic. (The fee
could be more if your vet is outside the Port Hope-Cobourg area.)
Fleas
If your cat has fleas, please use Advantage or Revolution at
least 1 week before bringing him in for boarding. As owner of a cat
who unknowingly brings fleas to the cattery, your cat will be
treated with Advantage and you will be charged for this medication
at check-out. Should your cat be allergic to Advantage, we could
use Frontline. (This question will be asked on the Reservation
form.)
Preparing your cat for boarding
A week before you bring in your cat for boarding, start to prepare
him by leaving his carrier out with the door open in a room where
he spends most of his time. The cat will get used to seeing it
around and will be less stressed when the time comes for him to
go. Try putting his favourite toy inside.
